Calcutta High Court has granted interim bail to TMC leader Jai Prakash Majumdar. The case was heard by Justice Ajay Kumar Mukherjee. The single bench granted interim bail with certain conditions. As per the conditions, TMC leader Jai Prakash Majumdar cannot leave Kolkata and Bidhannagar. They cannot even enter the Phoolbagan area, where their flat is located.

It is noteworthy that on June 3, the police had arrested Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Jayprakash Majumdar on charges of illegally occupying a residential flat in Bidhannagar for about 14 years. This flat number AE-337 located in Bidhannagar belongs to Aarti Roychoudhary.

According to reports, Jaiprakash Majumdar had rented the property in 2012, but the rent agreement had expired in 2015. The flat owner alleges that neither a new agreement was made nor the original lease was renewed, yet the flat continued to be occupied.
An FIR was registered at Bidhannagar North police station in connection with this incident. On this the TMC leader filed a petition in the Calcutta High Court for bail.

Trinamool Congress state vice president Jai Prakash Majumdar was arrested by the police on Wednesday for alleged illegal occupation of a rented house in Salt Lake.

Majumdar was living with his wife in a house in Salt Lake on the northern outskirts of Kolkata. The landlady had recently lodged a complaint against him at Bidhannagar (North) police station. The complaint alleged that Majumdar was not only not paying the rent for a long time, but also threatened and abused her by citing political influence when she asked for the rent.

According to the complaint, Majumdar had come to live in that house with his wife in the year 2014 on a nominal rent. However, after some time he also stopped paying the rent. The landlady alleges that whenever she was asked to pay rent or vacate the house, he used to threaten her with dire consequences.

It has been told that this house was earlier in the name of the landlady’s husband. After his death, its ownership passed to his wife.
