CBSE Compartment Exam: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has initiated the process for the Class 12 compartment exam (2026). Simultaneously, the Board has directed schools to submit the list of eligible students online. According to the Board, schools must complete the registration of all eligible students via the ‘Pariksha Sangam’ portal between June 30 and July 8. The Board has clearly stated that if a student’s name is not included in the LOC, they will not be permitted to appear for the compartment exam.
Mandatory instructions for schools
CBSE has instructed all schools to log in to the ‘Pariksha Sangam’ portal using their affiliation login credentials and submit the LOC for eligible students. The Board has clarified that the names of students placed in the ‘compartment’ category must be included in the list without fail, even if the school has been unable to contact them. If a student’s name is missing from the LOC, they will not be given an opportunity to take the exam later. Therefore, schools have been directed to complete the entire process within the stipulated timeframe.
What should compartment students do?
Students who appeared as regular candidates in the 2026 CBSE Class 12 board exams and were placed in the compartment category must contact the same school from which they took the board exam. Their names will be forwarded for the compartment exam through these schools. The Board has advised students not to wait until the last date and to contact their schools well in time.
Which students are eligible for the compartment exam?
CBSE has also provided details regarding the categories of students eligible for this exam: students declared in the compartment category in the 2026 board exams who will be appearing for their first compartment exam. This applies to students who have passed the main examination but wish to improve their marks, as well as those who passed the 2026 board examination and want to improve their score in a specific subject. Additionally, students who appeared for the Class 12 examination for the first time in 2025 and wish to avail themselves of the third and final opportunity for the compartment exam may apply solely as private candidates. According to the board, students falling under the compartment category are granted a maximum of three attempts to pass the examination.
When will the compartment examination be held?
CBSE has announced the date for the Class 12 compartment examination. The exam will be conducted on July 28, 2026. CBSE has revised the date for the Class 12 compartment exam; while it was originally scheduled for July 15, it will now take place on July 28. The date for the release of admit cards has not yet been announced. The board stated that this information will be released separately; furthermore, if any errors are found in the admit cards, schools must immediately contact the concerned regional office.
What is the fee for the compartment examination?
The application fee for the compartment examination must be paid online. Candidates can make the payment using a credit card, debit card, net banking, or UPI. According to CBSE, the fee is ₹320 per subject for schools in India, ₹1,100 per subject for schools in Nepal, and ₹2,200 per subject for schools located in other countries.
