Newcastle United’s worries about Bruno Guimaraes potentially moving to Premier League rivals Arsenal or Manchester United have grown considerably following a new and surprising revelation.
After missing out on priority targets Elliot Anderson and Mateus Fernandes, who are set to join Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur respectively, Manchester United are now shifting their focus to alternative midfield options.
The Red Devils reportedly chose not to engage in fierce bidding contests for Anderson and Fernandes. Manchester City and Nottingham Forest agreed on a guaranteed £116 million fee for Anderson, while Fernandes will complete his move to Tottenham for £85 million. United deemed both valuations too excessive to pursue.
One of the players now on United’s radar is believed to be Guimaraes. Similar to Anthony Gordon, who recently joined Barcelona, and Sandro Tonali, who is also expected to leave St James’ Park, Guimaraes could be the next high-profile exit from Newcastle.
Newcastle’s inability to qualify for the Champions League after finishing 12th in the Premier League has weakened their position in retaining their top players. Guimaraes, a commanding midfielder capable of operating as either a No. 6 or No. 8, has established himself as one of the league’s standout performers since arriving from Lyon in 2022.
A recent report covered by The Peoples Person indicated that Arsenal had enquired about the Brazilian international. It is believed the Gunners were ready to pay £55 million for him, but Newcastle remain resistant to any sale.
However, according to Chronicle Live, the Magpies have become increasingly uneasy about Guimaraes’s future after his representatives were seen in the company of a prominent football super-agent.
The publication reported that the 28-year-old’s agent, Alexis Malavolta, has been closely accompanying the player during his time in North America for the World Cup.
“Malavolta is travelling across the United States to support Bruno but was spotted alongside a key dealmaker well known to Arsenal following Brazil’s victory over Japan in the Round of 32 in Houston.”
“Bruno’s agent is affiliated with the Bertolucci group, managed by Giuliano Bertolucci, the influential super-agent who brokered deals for Gabriel Magalhaes and David Luiz with Arsenal.”
It is also reported that Guimaraes’s representative was seen with another high-profile agent, Kia Joorabchian, further intensifying Newcastle’s fears that a potential transfer is being orchestrated behind the scenes.
According to Chronicle Live, Newcastle have no intention of selling their midfield star, yet there are growing concerns they might be forced to do so. Arsenal reportedly believe that an offer of around £65 million could be enough to secure Guimaraes’s signature. What remains uncertain is whether Manchester United are willing to meet or surpass that figure.
The fact that Newcastle are increasingly uneasy about their key player’s attention being diverted elsewhere may be the strongest sign yet that a transfer could be imminent.
