Manchester United have experienced a sluggish start to the summer transfer season. The Red Devils were expected to move aggressively in their search for Casemiro’s successor, but developments have not gone as anticipated.
The Brazilian midfielder has departed Old Trafford on a free transfer and appears set to join Inter Miami. Considering the crucial role he played last season, United must find an adequate replacement ahead of the upcoming campaign.
INEOS have acted swiftly to secure Atalanta’s Ederson, yet they continue to seek additional midfield options. Unfortunately for United, their two main targets, Elliot Anderson and Mateus Fernandes, seem poised to join Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur, respectively.
This situation has prompted the club to explore alternative options, both within the Premier League and overseas. One player who has impressed the Old Trafford decision-makers is Felix Nmecha of Borussia Dortmund.
Nmecha was linked with United prior to the World Cup, and his reputation has grown following a series of impressive personal displays during the tournament. Despite Germany’s unexpected Round of 32 elimination at the hands of Paraguay, the 25-year-old made a strong impression.
He started all four of Germany’s matches at the summer showpiece, netting once and providing two assists. His dominance in central midfield has attracted attention worldwide, with United now firmly among his admirers.
The German international also enjoyed a strong campaign for Borussia Dortmund last season, contributing five goals and three assists across 42 appearances in all competitions.
A report from The Peoples Person indicates that Manchester United have already entered discussions to sign Nmecha. Fresh information has now surfaced regarding Dortmund’s financial expectations for the player.
According to Sport BILD, cited by Sport Witness, the Bundesliga club are open to incorporating performance-related bonuses in any deal for Nmecha this summer. The report further notes that Dortmund are seeking a structure similar to the one Real Madrid used when signing Jude Bellingham in 2023.
Real Madrid secured Bellingham for €103 million, but the deal has since risen to €127 million due to additional payments. This increase stems from well-designed add-ons, including a €3 million bonus for qualifying for the Champions League.
If Bellingham continues to excel at the Santiago Bernabéu, Borussia Dortmund could ultimately receive as much as €133 million. The German club now hope to replicate this structure with Nmecha, who remains under contract at Signal Iduna Park until 2030.
Dortmund are reportedly prepared to accept a proposal including attainable add-ons, though the base transfer fee is expected to be around €100 million.
It is becoming increasingly evident that Manchester United will need to make a major financial commitment to capture a top-quality midfielder this summer. After missing out on Anderson and Fernandes, INEOS must act quickly if they wish to outpace their rivals for Nmecha’s signature.
