Eetha title controversy
Recently, Eetha landed in trouble after the Nationalist Congress Party's Film and Cultural Department (NCP Chitrapat va Sanskrutik Vibhag) raised an objection against the title of the film. Its members believe that Eetha doesn't do justice to the legacy of Vithabai. Instead, the party questioned why the film wasn't titled Vitha or Vithabai. NCP's Film and Cultural Department further backed the demand, saying that wasn't just another folk artist, but the torchbearer of Maharashtra's culture, art form and Tamasha. Its members believed that Eetha's title doesn't create the impact it should have. Vithabai's sons, Kailash Narayangaonkar and Rajesh Narayangaonkar, along with her grandson Mohit Narayangaonkar, backed the NCP's Film and Cultural Department's demand.
Anant V Joshi reacts to Eetha title controversy
Reacting to the conflict, who features in Eetha, told Zoom exclusively that the purpose behind not naming the film after the person was to avoid future complications. Further reacting to the Narayangaonkar family's demand to use real names, Joshi said, "It only does well and in favour of the movie if the family feels super comfortable giving this the name of the real person. It actually makes the movie sound more credible that the family and anybody don't have any objection to taking a real person's name. And outrightly, the makers have always given credit to whose story this is." Eetha also stars Randeep Hooda, and Mohammad Zeeshan Ayyub. The film releases in theatres on August 28.
