What do we see in the Dwayne Johnson Moana video?

The British Theatre Academy put on a Moana Pop-Up Experience in London’s Potters Field on Tuesday, June 30. During their rendition of the famous song You’re Welcome, Johnson surprised the young crew by crashing the stage and singing along. The surprise appearance came shortly after the live-action Moana tour was announced.

The Disney Club UK shared a YouTube short of the performance.

According to PeopleJohnson walks onstage mid-performance with a microphone and sings a verse of the song while the students provide backing vocals and continue dancing.

The British Theatre Academy shared a Facebook post with the caption, “Some days are just a little more magical than others!” and also expressed their gratitude and joy to Disney Club UK, “Today was turned around in just 48 hours!! Huge congratulations to our members, our creatives and the admin team who made this all happen.”

They also teased more news and reels from Dwayne Johnson to follow, and added, “We are all still recovering from this brilliant event!” Additionally, the vice principal of the academy, Corin Pinky Miller, posted, “Today our members performed with Dwayne Johnson and it was as surreal as it sounds! What a kind and generous man, in energy, soul and words. His endorsement of the Academy was EVERYTHING and more. A day our kids will NEVER forget.”

Johnson sang the song in the 2016 original animated movie and will reprise his role as Maui in the live-action adaptation. He will star alongside Catherine Lagaʻaia, who will play Moana. The duo recently released a new song for the movie with Auliʻi Cravalho. Other cast members include John Tui, Frankie Adams, Rena Owen, and Jemaine Clement.

The movie is directed by Thomas Kail and written by Jared Bush and Dana Ledoux Miller. Alongside Johnson, Dany Garcia, Hiram Garcia, Beau Flynn, and Lin-Manuel Miranda are credited as producers of the film.

The Disney movie is scheduled to release in theaters on July 10, 2026.
