A light-hearted moment between Indian actress Alia Bhatt and a fan drew attention during the promotion of her upcoming film Alpha in Jaipur.
Alia Bhatt and Sharvari attended a promotional event for the film, where they met fans and answered questions. During the interaction, a fan called out, “President of India,” referring to a joke that has followed the actress for years.
Alia responded with a smile and handled the moment in a cheerful way. She said, “Haven’t you seen Latent?” while referring to her recent appearance on India’s Got Latent. She then added that she already knew the answer and joked that she would happily say it again if it earned another round of applause.
The Gangubai Kathiawadi actress then correctly answered, “Droupadi Murmu,” as the audience clapped and cheered.
During the same interaction, an audience member had asked how she and her team agreed to appear on an unfiltered platform like India’s Got Latent. Before the answer was completed, another voice from the crowd had jokingly said, “Paisa (money)!”
Alia had reacted instantly with laughter and then responded in a light tone, “Kisne bola ye, kisi gareeb aadmi ne (Who said this, probably some broke person).” The comment had led to loud cheers and applause from the audience present at the venue.
A clip from the event had later circulated online, where many viewers reacted to the moment. The official handle of India’s Got Latent had commented, “Too good!” while comedian Samay Raina also reacted with “Killl!”
The joke had earlier appeared during her appearance on comedian Samay Raina’s show. At that time, Samay had asked her to name her favourite state. After she paused for a moment, he joked, “State poocha hai, President nahi.”
During the same show, Samay playfully asked whether she knew the President’s name. Alia replied, “Droupadi Murmu.” She also said that President Murmu had presented her with a National Award.
Samay then jokingly asked her to request the President to help get the legal case against him dropped, which made the audience laugh.
Meanwhile, Alphadirected by Shiv Rawail, is scheduled to release in theatres on July 3. The film also features Sharvari, Anil Kapoor and Bobby Deol.
