Doha. The much-awaited talks between America and Iran have still not started in Qatar’s capital Doha. Delegations from both countries are present, but Iran has put forward several stringent conditions before negotiating a final agreement. Tehran has made it clear that direct talks will not be possible until Israeli military action in Lebanon stops and the US releases Iran’s frozen assets by relieving oil sanctions.

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said that an environment for talks would be created only when regional tensions subside. Iran says it is currently ready for only indirect talks mediated by Qatar. On the other hand, American representatives met Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani and discussed the future strategy.

Meanwhile, the security of the Strait of Hormuz has also become a major issue of talks. American security experts believe that ensuring the security of sea routes is a priority for both sides so that the global energy supply is not affected. America wants Qatar and other Gulf countries to play the role of mediator in this direction.

On the other hand, Israel has claimed to have killed a Hezbollah fighter in southern Lebanon. After this incident the tension in the area has increased further. Iran has warned that it will retaliate if the ceasefire understanding is violated. Experts believe that the success of the Doha talks is not limited only to the relations between America and Iran, but it will also affect the entire West Asia, the global oil market and international maritime trade. At present, both the sides are firm on their respective stances, due to which the prospects of starting the talks remain uncertain.
