The announcement was made by Akanksha during the premiere of Lock Upp 2 Sach Ya Sazaa wherein she revealed that they have been separated for a year now and are all set to divorce each other. For the uninitiated, Gaurav and Akanksha had married each other in 2017 and have never failed to paint the town red with their mushy romance. Explaining the reason for divorcing Gaurav, Akanksha stated that while the Anupamaa actor wants to have kids and start a family, she doesn't have any maternal instincts and doesn't want to have kids ever. And now, Gaurav's best friend Anuj Sachdeva has reacted to the couple's divorce and stated that he had no clue about the duo living separately for so long. He also emphasised that when he confronted Gaurav about the divorce, the latter stated that he was unaware of Akanksha going public about the divorce on a show. As per a post shared by Vickey Lalwani, Anuj stated, "I did not know that Gaurav and Akanksha were not staying together since the last 9 months. But yes, I spoke to Gaurav after the news got splashed. Gaurav was completely unaware that Akanksha is going to go public about the current status of their marriage in Lock Upp... And yes, I must say that Gaurav is not washing his dirty linen in public... Gaurav really loved her a lot and gave her all that she wanted".

Furthermore, Anuj also speculated if the divorce announcement was a mere publicity stunt by Akanksha for Lock Upp 2. Speaking about Gaurav and Akanksha parting ways over a conflict regarding having kids, Anuj stated, "I don't think so. Besides that's a very personal thing which nobody should ask or speculate about... So far, Akanksha had never gone public about this. I wonder if she's doing it to increase the eyeballs on the show".
