Ayodhya, 30 June. The political controversy over alleged irregularities in offerings in the Shri Ram temple of Ayodhya has intensified. The Congress delegation led by Uttar Pradesh Congress President Ajay Rai, who had arrived to meet the temple trust and have darshan of Lord Shri Ram, was stopped by the police from proceeding further. After this action, Congress accused the government of suppressing the voice of the opposition, while the administration called it a precautionary step taken to maintain law and order.
There was a program to meet and surround the temple trust.
According to Congress, a nine-member delegation led by Ajay Rai had reached Ayodhya. The objective of the delegation was to have darshan of Lord Shri Ram, meet the temple trust and get information about the facts to the offering dispute. Congress had also announced siege of the temple trust office.
Congress’s allegation – Ajay Rai was put under ‘house arrest’
The party alleges that late on Monday night the police detained Ajay Rai from a hotel in Ayodhya and took him to another place. Congress says he was effectively put under ‘house arrest’ and prevented from going to the temple. According to Congress, MPs and MLAs were also to be included in the delegation, but the administration did not allow them to proceed.
‘Government is avoiding questions’: Ajay Rai
Ajay Rai alleged that the BJP government is suppressing the voice of the opposition to avoid questions being raised on the alleged theft of offerings in the Ram temple and land disputes. He said, “We had come for the darshan and worship of Lord Shri Ram. We also wanted to prepare a factual report by taking information about the controversies to the temple. We also wanted to pray to Lord Shri Ram that this holy place should be freed from the allegations like alleged donation irregularities and land disputes.” Ajay Rai alleges that around 11:30 pm on Monday night, the police forcibly detained him and took him to the guest house of Acharya Narendra Dev University of Agriculture and Technology and stopped him from going to the temple.
Congress warned of agitation
Ajay Rai said that Congress workers will fight at every level for the right to darshan and worship Lord Shri Ram. He said that if necessary, the workers will go to jail and even sacrifice food and water, but will not back down. Congress also said that the delegation will submit its report to Rahul Gandhi and on the basis of that, a reply will be sought from the government in the upcoming monsoon session of Parliament. The party says that it is necessary to ensure transparency and accountability in this matter to the faith of crores of devotees.
Allegation of stopping other leaders also
Congress leaders allege that police were deployed at the houses of party leaders in many districts of the state so that they could not reach Ayodhya. However, Congress MP Kishori Lal Sharma reached Ayodhya late in the night. He also alleged that he was prevented from having darshan of Lord Shri Ram. He said, “The alleged theft of offerings could not be stopped, but Ram devotees are being prevented from having darshan. After all, in which tradition are devotees prevented from having darshan of the Lord?”
Reena Rai also accused the government
Meanwhile, Ajay Rai’s wife Reena Rai released a video message and made serious allegations against the state government. She said that the government is trying to suppress her husband’s voice. He also said that if Ajay Rai suffers any kind of harm then the government will take full responsibility for it. At present, political rhetoric regarding the Ram temple offering controversy is intense. The administration says that necessary steps have been taken to maintain law and order. Both investigation and political debate regarding the matter are ongoing.
