Benfica are reportedly optimistic about securing a new contract for António Silva, with the club not perceiving AC Milan’s interest as a serious concern. According to Glorioso 1904, discussions between the Portuguese side and the 22-year-old centre-back remain positive, while no tangible progress has been made between the player and Milan.
Earlier Italian reports suggested that AC Milan were close to finalising a deal valued at 20 million euros plus an additional five million euros in performance-based add-ons, with Jorge Mendes overseeing negotiations. Those same reports hinted that the talks were connected to potential discussions involving Gonçalo Ramos as part of a broader collaborative arrangement.
However, Portuguese outlet A Bola has since presented a different picture, indicating that Milan are not prioritising the signing of António Silva at this stage and are hesitant to move forward under those financial terms. The report highlights that Ruben Amorim’s immediate squad requirements are currently taking precedence in Milan’s transfer strategy.
Further speculation suggested that a five-year contract worth around three million euros per year had been agreed upon, but these claims have not been verified, and there has been no concrete progress in negotiations between the player and the Italian club.
Benfica’s stance remains firm — they aim to extend the contract of one of their most valuable young assets. Both Rui Costa and Mário Branco have recently expressed confidence in achieving a renewal, noting that the final decision now lies with António Silva himself.
The Lisbon-based club have already submitted an improved offer, bringing it closer to the two million euros net annual salary that the defender is seeking. Beyond financial terms, discussions are also centred around the sporting project and Silva’s integral role under coach Marco Silva, which are seen as crucial factors in convincing the player to remain at Estádio da Luz.
