Types of LPG Distributors

First of all, understand that there are different types of LPG distributors. An LPG distributor is a registered person or agency, which delivers gas cylinders to domestic and commercial customers. A commission is paid for this work. Cylinders and other services are provided to consumers as per norms set by the gas distributor.

There are three types of LPG distributors. Urban distributors deliver gas cylinders to cities and towns. Rural/semi-urban distributors supply gas to villages and mid-urban areas. Remote area (DKV) distributors are responsible for delivering LPG cylinders to people living in hilly and remote areas.

What are the rules?

• The most important rule regarding LPG cylinder delivery is that it is the responsibility of the LPG distributor to deliver the filled cylinder to the customer’s registered address and to take back the empty cylinder. This means that, under normal circumstances, the customer should not need to go to a warehouse or agency to pick up the cylinder themselves.
• Another important rule is that if under certain circumstances the customer procures the cylinder from the distributor’s warehouse, he can get a rebate on the price of the cylinder as per the stipulated rules. However, customers of Rajiv Gandhi Rural LPG Distributor (RGGLV) do not get this discount and have to pay fixed price.

Date time can be set

If customers want, they can also fix the date and time of gas cylinder delivery as per their convenience. An additional charge of ₹25 is charged for delivery between 8 am to 6 pm. Delivery before 8 am, after 6 pm or on Sundays will incur an additional charge of ₹50.

This fee is determined by the concerned district administration and may vary depending on the distance. It usually ranges from ₹16 to ₹35. However, if your home is within 5 km from the gas agency, you will not be charged any additional delivery charges for home delivery of LPG cylinders.

A convenience charge of ₹25 is usually charged for home delivery of a 5-kg “small” LPG cylinder. However, tipping ₹20 to ₹50 is completely optional for the customer. This is not a mandatory fee and the gas agency cannot demand it.
