Sarthak Siddhant, a Class 12 student from JVM Shyamali School in Ranchi, has taken a significant step towards transparency by making 1.66 crore government procurement records easily accessible to the public.

Motivated by the desire to simplify access to government procurement documents, Sarthak compiled these records from the Central Public Procurement (CPP) portal of the Government of India. His initiative allows citizens, journalists, and researchers to access this information effortlessly.

Sarthak emphasizes that government records are public property, yet the existing systems often complicate the process of finding and downloading them. To tackle this issue, he created a user-friendly portal that eliminates the need for navigating through complex procedures, thereby promoting transparency.

Over the last two weeks, he gathered approximately 1.66 crore procurement records from the CPP portal and organized them into a public database. This allows anyone to download the documents and analyze government procurement decisions independently.

Time Efficiency and User-Friendly Design

The standout feature of Sarthak's portal is its simplicity. While the official government portal can be cumbersome and time-consuming for users, Sarthak's platform streamlines the process, making it significantly easier for researchers, media outlets, and the general public to understand government procurement.

This isn't Sarthak's first venture into impactful initiatives. He previously investigated the CBSE's On-Screen Marking (OSM) system and the digital evaluation of Class 12 answer sheets. After discovering inconsistencies in his own marks, he sought to understand the evaluation process, which attracted considerable attention in the education sector.

Aiming for Greater Transparency

The primary goal of Sarthak's new initiative is to enhance transparency in government procurement. By making records related to government spending readily available, he hopes to encourage more individuals to analyze these documents, fostering research and strengthening public oversight.

Plans for Future Development

Looking ahead, Sarthak has plans to expand this project. He intends to collaborate with a team of engineers to introduce new features to the portal and increase the volume of records accessible to the public.
