Digital creator Bhagyashree Sharma , known on social media as Bhagya Bro, began her journey making short-form videos rooted in her everyday life and Assamese culture. Over time, she has built a pan-India audience through authenticity and relatable storytelling. Known for her humour and grounded personality, she is now seen in the OTT reality format Maa Hai Na , where she appears alongside her mother, marking an emotional shift from solo digital content to shared on-screen storytelling.

‘Reality shows don’t allow you to plan everything’
The transition from digital content to OTT reality required a completely different mindset. Bhagyashree shares, “On social media, I control everything from story to presentation. A reality show is different because you are placed in real situations where you cannot plan every moment. You just have to be yourself for an extended period.”

What drew her to Maa Hai Na was its emotional depth. She says, “It gave me a chance to show a side of myself people don’t usually see. Beyond comedy and relatable content, audiences will see my relationship with my mother in a more personal way.”

‘Working with my mother was the most special part of the experience’
In the cooking-based reality format Maa Hai Na, where celebrities participate alongside their mothers in bonding and culinary challenges, the experience naturally became deeply personal for Bhagyashree. She says, “Honestly, that was the most special part of the experience. We rarely get enough time with our parents, so this show gave us that space together. Like any mother-daughter duo, we have disagreements, emotional moments and laughter. There were times she surprised me with her confidence, and times I realised how much I’ve learnt from her without noticing it.”

‘We are not replacing traditional entertainers, we are adding new voices’
On the growing presence of digital creators in mainstream entertainment, she believes the industry is evolving rapidly. She shares, “We’re witnessing a major shift. Digital creators have built communities, not just audiences. Today, creators are hosting shows, acting and entering reality formats.”

At the same time, she is clear about the ongoing debate around whether social media following can sometimes outweigh talent when it comes to casting decisions. She says, “I understand why this debate exists. A strong following shows audience connection, and that can be valuable. But followers alone cannot sustain a career in entertainment. Audiences may watch someone out of curiosity once, but they will continue only if the performance is good. Social media may open doors, but talent, discipline and consistency keep you there.”

She adds that skill must remain central. She says, “Reach can be an advantage, but it should never replace talent. The ideal situation is when someone has both audience connection and genuine skill. Long-term success always depends on the quality of work.”

She also stresses that the two worlds are not in conflict. She adds, “We are not replacing traditional entertainers, we are adding new voices. The lines between digital and mainstream entertainment are becoming increasingly blurred.”

‘My journey has been organic’
Her rise as a creator was never forced or planned. She shares, “My journey has been incredibly organic. I started creating content based on my everyday life, my culture and the humour I grew up with. Being from Assam, I never felt the need to change who I was to appeal to a larger audience. Authenticity became my biggest strength.”

Over time, relatability expanded her reach. She says, “Initially, my content connected strongly with audiences from the Northeast. But over time I realised emotions, family dynamics and humour are universal. Social media removed geographical boundaries and helped me reach people across India.”

Looking ahead, she is focused on expanding her creative journey. “Short-form content will always be special to me, but I want to explore OTT, reality shows, hosting and scripted work. I want to discover new sides of myself. The goal is not just to be a content creator, but to build a sustainable career in entertainment. I’m open to anything that feels authentic and allows me to grow,” she concludes.
