Health Desk. Kidney is one of the most important organs of our body. It plays an important role in filtering the blood, removing toxic substances from the body and maintaining the balance of water and minerals. Due to today’s changing lifestyle, wrong eating habits and less physical activity, pressure on the kidneys can increase. In such a situation, kidney health can be kept better by adopting some good habits.
1. Drink adequate amount of water
Adequate amount of water in the body is necessary for the kidneys to function properly. Drinking enough water helps in removing waste materials from the body. However, the water requirement of each person may vary according to age, season and health condition.
2. Avoid salt and highly processed foods
Eating too much salt can put extra pressure on the kidneys. Limiting the intake of packaged snacks, fast food and high-salt foods may be beneficial. Fresh and balanced home-made food is considered a better option for kidneys.
3. Keep blood pressure and sugar under control
High blood pressure and increased blood sugar can affect kidney function. Therefore, it is important to get checked from time to time and adopt a healthy lifestyle.
4. Exercise regularly
Being physically active keeps weight under control and many body parts function better. Daily walking, yoga or light exercise maintains the fitness of the body.
5. Do not take medicines without consultation
Long-term misuse of some painkillers can affect the kidneys. Therefore, it is better to consult a doctor before taking any medicine continuously.
