Class 12 student Sarthak Siddhant has made 1.66 crore government procurement records publicly accessible. Now, anyone can check them with great ease.
Driven by the idea of making government procurement documents easily accessible to the general public, Sarthak Siddhant, a Class 12 student at JVM Shyamali School in Ranchi, has launched a unique initiative. He compiled approximately 1.66 crore government procurement records from the Government of India's Central Public Procurement (CPP) portal to create an online database where any citizen, journalist, or researcher can access these records with just a few clicks.
Sarthak believes that government records belong to the public, yet the current system makes finding and downloading them quite difficult. Addressing this challenge, he developed his own portal so that people would not have to navigate complex procedures to obtain necessary information. He holds the view that transparency is strengthened only when access to information is easy.
He explained that around 1.66 crore procurement records were gathered from the CPP portal over the past two weeks. Subsequently, all records were systematically organized into a public database. Now, anyone can download these documents and independently analyze decisions related to government procurement.
Significant Time Savings
The portal's greatest strength is its simplicity. While searching for and downloading records on the official government portal is time-consuming, the process has become far easier on Sarthak's platform. This will greatly assist researchers, media organizations, and ordinary citizens in understanding the government procurement process.
This is not the first time Sarthak has made headlines regarding a major issue. Previously, he studied documents related to CBSE's On-Screen Marking (OSM) system and the digital evaluation of Class 12 answer sheets. After noticing a discrepancy in the marks on his own scanned answer sheet, he sought to understand the entire evaluation process. That initiative of his had also garnered significant attention in the education sector. Focus Area
The focus of their new initiative is to make the government procurement process more transparent. They believe that when records related to government expenditure are easily accessible, more people will be able to analyze them. This will not only foster research but also strengthen public oversight.
Future Plans
Sarthak stated that there are plans to further enhance this project in the near future. To achieve this, he will work with a team of engineers to add new features to the portal and make a greater volume of records available to the public.
