Liverpool left disappointed as Yan Diomande favours PSG switch; RB Leipzig ace eyes future Ballon d'Or glory

Yan Diomande has reportedly decided to move to Paris Saint-Germain if he departs RB Leipzig this summer, delivering a major setback to Liverpool. The skillful winger believes that joining the French champions will provide him with the best opportunity to win major honours and ultimately achieve his ambition of lifting the Ballon d'Or in the future.

Diomande opts for PSG move over Liverpool

As reported by The Athletic, Diomande is fully convinced by the PSG sporting vision that is being directed by club chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi and football advisor Luis Campos. He is also enthusiastic about the chance to work under head coach Luis Enrique.

This latest development represents a considerable blow for Liverpool, who had shown readiness to put forward a substantial offer close to €100 million for Diomande. However, the player has made it clear that his preference lies in joining the French capital club. Diomande views PSG as the perfect place to regularly compete for the biggest trophies and eventually realise his dream of becoming a Ballon d'Or winner.

RB Leipzig demand higher transfer fee

Although Diomande has expressed his desire to join PSG, RB Leipzig have insisted that they will not allow their prized attacker to leave for a low price. The Bundesliga club reportedly turned down Liverpool’s €100 million proposal and are holding out for an amount nearing €130 million.

RB Leipzig are also attempting to convince Diomande to sign a contract extension, as he is currently tied to the club until 2030 following his move from Leganes last summer. Should Diomande complete a transfer, it would represent the biggest sale in RB Leipzig’s history, surpassing the €90 million Manchester City paid for Josko Gvardiol.

Outstanding 2025-26 season with Leipzig

In the 2025-26 campaign, Diomande netted 12 goals and registered nine assists across 33 Bundesliga fixtures, playing a crucial role in helping RB Leipzig secure third place and a Champions League spot. Last season, no player in the German top division attempted more dribbles than Diomande. He is currently representing Ivory Coast at the World Cup, where his pace, dribbling ability and sharp finishing have cemented his status as one of the most sought-after young talents in world football.

What lies ahead for Diomande?

For now, Diomande remains focused on his international duties with Ivory Coast at the World Cup. He is expected to feature when Ivory Coast take on Norway in the round of 32 in Arlington on Tuesday. Once the tournament concludes, PSG and RB Leipzig are likely to speed up discussions to finalise what could be one of the biggest transfers of the summer window.
