The USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service has issued a public health alert concerning boneless chicken breasts distributed across nine states. This alert, reported by Eating Well, is not due to contamination but rather a packaging oversight that omitted crucial safety information.

The product in question is Private Selection's Honey Dijon Boneless Skinless Chicken Breasts with Rib Meat, packaged in 21-ounce containers. Consumers should look for a best-if-used-by date of June 28, 2026, along with lot code 15326A and establishment number P-45288B. This chicken was distributed to Kroger and Fred Meyer stores in states including Alabama, Alaska, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, Oregon, and Washington. Some of these products may already be in consumers' homes, as they are no longer available on store shelves.

The issue arises from incorrect nutritional information on the back label of these packages, which fails to mention eggs as an allergen. This omission could pose significant risks for individuals with egg allergies.

While no allergic reactions have been reported so far, the risk remains serious. For those with an egg allergy, consuming this chicken without awareness of the egg content could lead to anaphylaxis, a potentially life-threatening condition. Symptoms to watch for include hives, difficulty breathing, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, and severe abdominal pain or diarrhea. Anyone experiencing these symptoms after consumption should seek immediate medical attention.

The FSIS advises anyone who has purchased this chicken to either dispose of it or return it to the store for a refund.
