Croatia and Ghana are set to battle for a place in the World Cup Round of 32.
Group L of the World Cup is poised for a thrilling conclusion as Croatia and Ghana face off in their final group-stage encounter, with both sides still in contention for automatic qualification.
The Black Stars require just a draw to advance to the knockout rounds for the first time since 2010, and they could even top the group if they achieve a better result than England in their match against Panama.
The big question remains — who will take charge of the vital fixture at Philadelphia Stadium?
Drew Fischer has been appointed as the referee for this crucial Group L match. The Canadian official previously served as a Video Assistant Referee during the 2022 World Cup.
Fischer brings extensive experience to the role, having officiated 324 professional matches across both club and international competitions.
Among his notable assignments are the MLS Cup final last year, as well as officiating duties in the 2019 Women's World Cup, the CONCACAF Gold Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup.
Primarily working in Major League Soccer (MLS), Fischer has issued a total of 1,073 yellow cards — averaging just over three per game — and 35 red cards throughout his career.
In his World Cup refereeing debut, the 45-year-old showed a more measured approach, issuing only one yellow card during France’s 3-0 victory over Iraq in Group I.
Fischer holds the distinction of being one of only three Canadian referees promoted to FIFA’s elite group of match officials in 2015, marking a significant milestone in his career.
Off the field, Fischer holds a degree in physics from the University of Calgary.
He will be supported by fellow Canadians Micheal Barwegen and Lyes Arfa as assistant referees, while Mexican official Guillermo Pacheco will oversee Video Assistant Referee (VAR) responsibilities.
Brazil’s Rodolph Toski will serve as Assistant VAR for the high-stakes encounter at Philadelphia Stadium.
