The issue of illegal soil mining in Sohramau and Ajgain areas of the district remains in the news. Last night, the Mineral Department took action against alleged illegal soil mining in Goamapur and Chilauli villages of Sohramau police station area and challaned seven dumpers. Despite this, allegations of mining activities continuing in various areas are coming to the fore.
According to the information, complaints have been received about continued soil mining in Makhi police station area also. In the morning, the police station stopped and investigated three dumpers on suspicion of operating them without valid royalty. During the investigation, the validity period of the royalty slips presented by the drivers was found to have expired, after which the matter became a topic of discussion regarding the possibility of revenue theft and violation of mining rules.
Local villagers allege that due to illegal mining, government roads, canal tracks and roundabouts are getting damaged rapidly. Along with this, farmers’ land and environment are also being adversely affected. Villagers say that complaints about illegal mining are being made for a long time in many areas including Pali, Makhi, but effective stop is not being done.
The villagers also alleged that from time to time questions have been raised on the role of some revenue personnel in cases to illegal mining. He says that due to the activities of the mining mafia, questions are being raised on the working style of the police and administration.
However, these allegations have not been officially confirmed. If the allegations are found true in the investigation, then impartial investigation and strict action will be necessary by the concerned departments, so that theft of revenue can be stopped and protection of environment and public properties can be ensured.
