Government takes big action in 657 crore IDFC bank scam, IAS Pankaj Aggarwal suspended

Chandigarh: Haryana government has suspended senior IAS officer Pankaj Aggarwal. Let us tell you, this decision has been taken a few days after his arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Pankaj Aggarwal, a 2000 batch Haryana cadre officer, is currently in judicial custody and an investigation is going on into a financial scam of Rs 657 crore to him.

CBI alleged

CBI alleges that government funds worth more than Rs 60 crore were withdrawn from the accounts of Haryana School Education Project Council (HSSPP) and Haryana State Agricultural Marketing Board (HSAMB) contrary to the rules. The investigating agency claims that at that time Pankaj Aggarwal was posted as Principal Secretary in these departments.

How did the government suffer huge losses?

Investigation has also revealed that accounts were opened against government rules in a branch of IDFC First Bank located in Chandigarh. It is alleged that more government money was transferred to these accounts and later the amount was withdrawn through suspicious transactions, causing huge loss to the government.

Chargesheet filed against 17 people

CBI says that this matter is not limited to just two departments. The agency is investigating alleged embezzlement of a total of Rs 657 crore involving eight departments of the Haryana government and the Chandigarh administration. So far, chargesheet has been filed against 17 people in this case. These include names of bank officials, government employees, private companies and others.

Important evidence found against Pankaj Aggarwal

The investigating agency claims that important evidence has been found against Pankaj Aggarwal. Apart from this, investigation is also going on into the cases of financial irregularities to Chandigarh Smart City Limited (CSCL), Chandigarh Municipal Corporation and CREST. CBI says that the documents and bank transactions in all the cases are being closely examined and further legal action will be taken after the completion of the investigation.
