Additionally, recruitment will be conducted for 461 Assistant Motor Vehicle Inspector posts, 282 Tax Assistant posts, 9 Industry Inspector posts, and 3 Technical Assistant posts. In total, eligible candidates will be selected for 2,619 vacant posts.
Vacancy breakdown by post
Assistant Motor Vehicle Inspector – 461 posts
Tax Assistant – 282 posts
Industry Inspector – 9 posts
Clerk-Typist – 1,864 posts
Technical Assistant – 3 posts
What is the exam pattern?
Along with the recruitment process, the Commission has also made significant changes to the examination pattern. The MPSC has announced that, starting in 2027, the optional subject papers will be discontinued in the Maharashtra Civil Services (Gazetted Group A and Group B) Main Examination. This means candidates will no longer need to prepare for two optional subjects for the Main Examination.
Notably, several states across the country have already removed optional subjects from their state service Main Examinations. These include states such as Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar. Now, Maharashtra is also moving in the same direction. This change is expected to make the examination process simpler and more uniform.
A Major Change Implemented
Another significant change is that the Combined Preliminary Examination will be held on September 27, 2026, and for the first time, it will be conducted as a Computer-Based Test (CBT)—that is, in online mode. Previously, this exam was held offline. Conducting the exam online will give candidates experience with a modern examination system, and the entire process is expected to be more transparent.
According to the commission, candidates who qualify in the preliminary examination will proceed to the next stage of the recruitment process. Therefore, candidates should start preparing for the exam immediately. Additionally, when applying, ensure that all necessary documents, photographs, and signatures are uploaded in the correct format to avoid the risk of the application being rejected.
