digital desk- The biggest and shocking news of this time is coming out from the politics of Bihar. Prashant Kishore (PK), the founder of ‘Jan Suraj’ party, has made a big announcement of his direct entry into electoral politics. Prashant Kishor has made it clear that if the party agrees, he will himself contest as a candidate in the upcoming by-election on the high-profile Bankipur assembly seat of Patna. This decision of PK is being considered to completely overturn the current political chessboard of Bihar.

First big ‘referendum’ against Samrat Chaudhary

During a special conversation, Prashant Kishor has termed this by-election as the first big ‘referendum’ on the tenure and leadership of Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary. PK directly attacked the CM and said that this election is not just for one seat, but will decide the public approval on the work of Samrat Chaudhary. He claimed that the people of Bankipur are very angry with Samrat Choudhary becoming the Chief Minister, because in the 2025 assembly elections, the people had voted in the name of Nitish Kumar and not for Samrat Choudhary. Prashant Kishor has given an open challenge to break into this strong stronghold of BJP. He said in a very aggressive tone, “If the Bharatiya Janata Party loses its strongest and safest seat like Bankipur due to me contesting the elections myself, then I am fully ready to accept this challenge and contest the elections myself.” This attitude of PK has made it clear that he is in a mood to make this by-election a close fight.

Changed strategy: Earlier I had vowed not to contest elections myself.

This announcement of Prashant Kishor is also very important because earlier as part of his strategy he had said that he would never contest elections himself. Even during the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, PK did not file nomination from any seat. His argument was that if he himself contested the elections, he would not be able to campaign for other Jan Suraj candidates across Bihar. Initially there was discussion that he can contest elections from his home constituency Karghar or against Tejashwi Yadav in Raghopur, but he did not do so. Now since it is a by-election for just one seat, PK has changed his strategy and decided to test his personal political strength by entering the fray himself.

Bihar’s biggest and interesting political battle

With the entry of Prashant Kishore on Bankipur seat, this contest is no longer triangular or normal. This has directly become the first biggest litmus test of the leadership of Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary. Political analysts believe that if Prashant Kishor makes a strong performance in Bankipur or manages to cause an upset, it will prove to be a turning point for the future politics of Bihar.
