Passport Fee Hike 2026: The Central Government has increased the fees for passports and various related services. The Ministry of External Affairs has announced a hike in passport charges. These changes have been made under the ‘Passport (Amendment) Rules, 2026,’ which will come into effect nationwide on July 1, 2026.
What will the new fees be?
According to the new rates, the fee for a standard 36-page passport (new or re-issue) will now be ₹2,500. For the Tatkaal service in this category, the fee will be ₹5,000. Previously, these fees were ₹1,500 and ₹3,500, respectively. Charges for 60-page passports have also increased; the fee is now ₹3,500 for a general application and ₹6,000 for Tatkaal, up from the previous ₹2,000 and ₹4,000.

Under the new system, the government has set specific fees for different categories, including adult applicants, minors, lost or damaged passports, and special travel documents.
What is the cost for lost or damaged passports?
If a passport is lost or damaged, the fee for a 36-page passport in the adult category will now be ₹5,000 for the general service and ₹7,500 for Tatkaal. For a 60-page passport, the charges will be ₹6,000 and ₹8,500, respectively. For minor applicants, the fee for a fresh or re-issued 36-page passport has been set at ₹1,750, with a Tatkaal fee of ₹4,250. Minors will have to pay ₹4,250 for a lost or damaged passport, and ₹6,750 under the Tatkaal scheme.
Which other services have become costlier?
The Ministry of External Affairs has also fixed fees for certain other services:
PCC, Surrender Certificate, GEP verification, and other certificates: ₹750 in India, $40 abroad
Emergency Certificate: $15 abroad
Certificate of Identity: ₹1,000 in India, $50 abroad
What will be the validity of the passport?
According to the new notification, passports in the adult category will be valid for 10 years. Passports for minors will be valid for 5 years or until the holder turns 18—whichever comes first.
