Manchester United have reportedly opened discussions to secure the signing of Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha, as competition intensifies for the German international’s signature. The Red Devils are determined to gain an advantage over their Premier League rivals Manchester City and Liverpool, both of whom have been closely monitoring the 25-year-old following his impressive performances at the World Cup.
United step up approach for Dortmund midfielder
The Old Trafford outfit are actively pursuing a deal for Nmecha, with the club accelerating efforts to bring the versatile midfielder to Manchester. As per reports from Sky Sports, United are working diligently behind the scenes to make a Premier League move possible.
Christopher Vivell, the German head of Manchester United’s scouting department, is said to be in frequent contact with Nmecha’s representatives. This direct communication underlines the club’s serious intent to win the race for a player whose profile has risen dramatically during the current international campaign.
Intense competition from England and Spain
Manchester United are not the only club keen on Nmecha, as several top European sides are closely tracking the situation. According to Sky Sports, both Manchester City and Liverpool remain interested, with each club eager to strengthen their midfield ranks with high-quality talent.
Interest extends beyond the Premier League, with Spanish giants Real Madrid also keeping tabs on the midfielder. Reports suggest that Jose Mourinho is a known admirer of Nmecha’s playing style, adding further weight to the competition. Despite the attention from across Europe, United currently appear to be leading the chase with the most determined approach.
Dortmund firm on their stance
Borussia Dortmund are negotiating from a strong position, as Nmecha signed a contract extension in March that ties him to Signal Iduna Park until 2030. Notably, the deal does not include any release clause applicable to this summer. As reported by Kicker, the club has placed an informal valuation of around €100 million on the midfielder—an amount clearly intended to deter most potential bidders.
Sporting director Lars Ricken reaffirmed the club’s commitment to Nmecha, stating in a recent interview, “Felix is for us elementary.” Any club wishing to sign him, including Manchester United, would therefore need to present a substantial financial offer just to initiate talks.
Nmecha’s growing reputation on the global stage
Nmecha’s recent surge in recognition comes after a series of standout displays for Germany at the World Cup. The midfielder impressed in the opening two group matches, scoring and assisting against Curacao, and then setting up Deniz Undav’s winning goal in the 2-1 victory over the Ivory Coast.
These performances have underlined Nmecha’s ability to make a decisive impact in major tournaments, enhancing his appeal to clubs in search of a dynamic, goal-scoring midfielder. His blend of physical strength and technical precision has positioned him as a primary target for United’s recruitment team this transfer window.
