The group stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup is drawing to a close, with nations battling fiercely to secure a place in the round of 32.
Leading contenders France and Argentina have already sealed their progression to the knockout rounds, while England and Spain are close to confirming their spots as well.
However, for six teams, their World Cup dreams have already ended after suffering defeats in their first two fixtures. Here’s a closer look at those who have been eliminated.
Haiti displayed commendable determination in their 4-2 loss to Morocco on Wednesday, but their hopes had already been dashed following a 3-0 defeat to Brazil the previous week. The Caribbean side also lost their opening game 1-0 against Scotland, completing a disappointing group stage run.
Despite having exceptional talents such as Arda Guler and Hakan Çalhanoğlu, Turkiye endured a frustrating tournament in North America. They began with a 2-0 loss to Australia and followed that with a 1-0 defeat to 10-man Paraguay, which confirmed their early exit.
Tunisia endured a disastrous start, suffering a 5-1 thrashing at the hands of Sweden in Mexico. The Eagles of Carthage then faced Japan, who put four unanswered goals past them, ending Tunisia’s campaign in emphatic fashion.
Jordan, making their first-ever World Cup appearance, also saw their hopes cut short. Under coach Jamal Sellami, the Asian debutants began with a 3-1 defeat to Austria and were later beaten 2-1 by Algeria earlier this week, ensuring their elimination.
Panama found themselves in one of the most challenging groups of the tournament alongside England, Croatia, and Ghana. Unsurprisingly, their campaign ended prematurely after consecutive defeats to Ghana and Croatia.
Qatar’s World Cup run also came to an end after losing their second group match against Bosnia & Herzegovina. The reigning Asian champions had earlier suffered a heavy 6-0 defeat to Canada in their opening game, leaving them with no chance of advancing.
