Petroleum Ministry issued statement

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas said in a statement issued on Thursday that the supply challenges arising after the US and Israeli attacks on Iran have now improved. According to the ministry, the decision to normalize LPG distribution has been taken after regional tensions subside and the supply chain situation improves.

OMCs will now supply LPG like before

After the government's decision, Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) will now make normal supply of non-domestic packed LPG like before the war. With this, commercial and industrial consumers across the country will see improvement in fuel availability and their operational problems will be reduced.

Relief in bulk LPG supply also

The government has also relaxed the restrictions related to bulk LPG supply. Now commercial and industrial consumers have been allowed to provide LPG up to 50 percent of their pre-crisis consumption level. Officials say that this will help industries to start their production and business activities normally.

Restrictions were imposed during the Strait of Hormuz crisis

Global energy supply was affected by the fear of closure of the Strait of Hormuz during the increased tension between Iran and America-Israel. In view of this situation, the Government of India had imposed several temporary restrictions under the Essential Commodities Act to ensure the availability of LPG. The objective of the government was to maintain uninterrupted supply of LPG for domestic and essential needs.

Relaxation in use of C3 and C4 gases also

During the crisis, the government limited the use of gases like C3 and C4 mainly to LPG production so that there was no shortage in the market. Now, after the supply situation has improved, the use of these gases is being allowed for other industries also. However, the government has clarified that LPG production for domestic needs and essential services will not be affected and its availability will remain stable.

Technical institution will monitor the allocation

The government has said that a technical body will decide what share of C3 and C4 gases should be given to various industries. This institution will also submit reports to the Petroleum Ministry on regular basis so that balance is maintained between fuel supply and demand.

Single database of LPG customers will be created

To further improve the supply system, the government will create a single database of all commercial and industrial LPG consumers. With this, supply planning, monitoring and distribution can be conducted more effectively in future. Officials believe that this will increase both transparency and efficiency in fuel management.

Plan to promote PNG continues

The government still stands by its policy of promoting the use of Piped Natural Gas (PNG). The Ministry believes that PNG is a cleaner and environment friendly fuel. Customers who are already using PNG will continue to use it. Additionally, the plan to gradually shift commercial and industrial consumers from LPG to PNG in areas where PNG is available will also continue.
