CBI action on ‘digital arrest’: Raids at 200 locations across 16 states, 2 arrested.

The accused had defrauded people by creating a fake website of the Supreme Court.

New Delhi. CBI raids 80 locations in 16 states in more than 200 cases of digital arrest fraud. In these cases, the accused had duped people by creating fake websites of the Supreme Court. Officials gave this information on Thursday.

Officials said around 60 teams of the agency conducted simultaneous raids at 80 locations across the country as part of the operation launched earlier this week. He said that this operation was concluded with the arrest of two accused B. Happened with the arrest of Naresh and Sanjeev Saha. They have been arrested from Chennai and Kolkata.

The arrested accused were involved in formation of fake companies and opening and operation of ‘mule’ bank accounts. A CBI spokesperson said, these accounts were used to legitimize suspicious funds of approximately Rs 2 crore allegedly acquired from crime.

This action was taken after the FIR registered by CBI. The FIR was lodged on a complaint by the Supreme Court registry, which alleged that fraudsters were duping people in the name of ‘digital arrest’ by using URLs similar to the Supreme Court website.

CBI spokesperson said, CBI has recently detected a fake website, the URL of which fraudulently resembled the official website of the Supreme Court of India. It is alleged that fraudsters used this fraudulently registered domain to dupe people in the name of ‘digital arrest’. On the basis of the complaint received from the Registry of the Supreme Court of India, CBI has registered an FIR and started investigation in this case.
