Delhi government has also started investigation and review regarding the security arrangements of the coaching institutes running in the capital after the fire in Lucknow. Ashish Sood (Minister of Education, Higher Education and Technical Education) on Wednesday chaired a high-level meeting to review the security arrangements, infrastructure and regulatory compliance of the coaching institutes of Delhi. In the meeting, the minister said that the Delhi government is fully committed to protecting the interests of the students and their future. He clarified that no educational institution will be allowed to compromise with the safety of students. He directed the officials to ensure that the coaching institutes follow the prescribed safety standards and rules. Strict and decisive action will be taken against institutions violating the rules.
The minister said that no compromise will be accepted in matters to the safety, welfare and life of students. He clarified that the safety and welfare of students is the top priority of the government and any negligence in security will not be tolerated. Ashish Sood directed that all the coaching institutes will have to completely follow the guidelines and prescribed security standards issued from time to time by the government and courts. Strict action will be taken against institutions violating the rules. Senior officials of various departments participated in the meeting to monitor and improve the security system. Among them, representatives of Home Department, Municipal Corporation (MCD), Urban Development Department, Delhi Fire Service, Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) and Directorate of Higher Education were present.
During the review meeting, instructions were given to all concerned departments to implement comprehensive and long-term security measures with immediate effect to ensure the safety of students in coaching institutes. The Minister said that following safety standards in institutions is not just a formality, but an essential responsibility. He asked the departments to regularly monitor the coaching institutes and wherever deficiencies in safety rules are found, necessary action should be taken.
Instructions to conduct special inspection campaign
Delhi government has started immediate action regarding security arrangements in coaching institutes. The Minister of Education, Higher Education and Technical Education has directed DDA, MCD, Delhi Fire Service and DDMA to conduct special inspection drives in major coaching hubs of the capital. Under this campaign, institutes running in major coaching areas like Mukherjee Nagar, Rajendra Nagar and Katwaria Sarai will be investigated. The inspection team will conduct a detailed check of the adherence to fire safety standards, status of building rules, emergency evacuation arrangements and other mandatory safety provisions in the coaching institutes. To make the campaign effective, the list of 923 coaching institutes surveyed in Delhi by MCD will be made available to the concerned departments. On the basis of this, the institutions will be examined and their compliance with safety standards will be reviewed.
Education Minister Ashish Sood has directed Delhi Fire Service, Delhi Police and other concerned departments to take strict action against institutions that violate safety standards and operate against the rules. The Minister has directed the Municipal Corporation (MCD) to submit a detailed report of the daily action taken against the coaching institutes to the Education Minister’s office. Officials have been asked to ensure that safety rules are effectively followed in the institutions. It was also informed in the meeting that the Directorate of Higher Education is preparing a comprehensive regulatory framework for coaching institutes. This new framework aims to address systemic deficiencies in coaching institutes, fix accountability, strengthen safety standards and establish a transparent monitoring system.
Education Minister Ashish Sood has said that any kind of negligence with the life and safety of students will not be tolerated. He said that the government is committed to protecting the interests of students and strict adherence to safety standards will be ensured in all coaching institutes. Strict action will be taken against any institutions found ignoring safety rules or endangering the safety of students. Ashish Sood has instructed the concerned departments to regularly monitor the security arrangements and take action as per rules against the institutions violating the rules.
