Pooja Pal's name needs no introduction in the politics of Uttar Pradesh. His political career began after a painful incident which shook the entire state. The murder of her husband and then BSP MLA Raju Pal not only affected the politics of Prayagraj but also raised big questions on the law and order of Uttar Pradesh.

A new turn came in politics after the murder of Raju Pal.

In 2005, Raju Pal, MLA from Allahabad West seat, was shot dead in broad daylight. This incident happened just 10 days after their marriage. At that time, the names of mafia Atiq Ahmed and his associates had come to light in this murder case. The case was included in the most talked about political and criminal incidents of the state for a long time.

After the murder of her husband, Pooja Pal chose the path of politics along with the fight for justice. In the by-election held in the same year, Bahujan Samaj Party made him its candidate, although he had to face defeat against Atiq Ahmed's brother Ashraf.

Became MLA from BSP, then political journey reached SP

Despite the defeat in the by-election, Pooja Pal did not leave the political field. In the 2007 assembly elections, she won on BSP ticket and became MLA for the first time. After this, in 2012 also the public expressed confidence in her and she reached the Assembly for the second time.

However, he had to face defeat in the 2017 assembly elections. After the election defeat, his activity in BSP decreased and gradually the party sidelined him. After this he joined Samajwadi Party in the year 2019.

Won elections on SP ticket, then was thrown out of the party

In the 2022 assembly elections, Samajwadi Party has nominated Pooja Pal from Chail seat of Kaushambi. She performed brilliantly and registered a big victory and became MLA for the third time.

But in August 2025, political developments suddenly changed. Inside the Assembly, Pooja Pal openly praised the 'zero tolerance' policy of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. He also praised the action taken by the government against the criminal network of Atiq Ahmed. After this, his meeting with the Chief Minister further intensified the political discussions.

The very next day after this incident, Samajwadi Party expelled him accusing him of anti-party activities and indiscipline. Since then there was continuous speculation about his joining BJP.
