A stellar line-up of musicians came together at Netaji Indoor Stadium on Sunday as musical duo Sourendro and Soumyojit marked World Music Day with a concert celebrating India's independent music scene . Inspired by folk traditions from across the country, the evening featured original compositions performed by Hariharan, Shankar Mahadevan, Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Rekha and Vishal Bharadwaj, Shilpa Rao, Benny Dayal, Kalpana Patowary, Anupam Roy, Nikhita Gandhi, Parvathy Baul and Ayaan Ali Bangash, among others.Unlike concerts built around familiar hits, the focus was firmly on new music, with every composition created exclusively for the occasion. Each artiste brought their distinctive voice and musical style to the stage, creating a rich tapestry of sounds and stories rooted in India's cultural diversity. Adding gravitas to the evening was Gulzar. The 93-year-old poet and lyricist was welcomed with a standing ovation as he took the stage. The concert ended on a high note with all the artistes coming together for a song celebrating the unity of Hindustan, drawing loud cheers from the audience and bringing the evening to a memorable close.
