Mexico secured first place in Group A at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after defeating the Czech Republic 3-0 in their final group-stage match on Thursday, June 25.
The game was played at the iconic Estadio Azteca in Mexico City and was officiated by Argentine referee Yael Falcón Pérez.
After a goalless first half, Mexico broke the deadlock in the 56th minute when defender Mateo Chávez found the net following an assist from Luis Romo. The hosts doubled their advantage just five minutes later through forward Julián Quiñones.
A memorable moment came in the 78th minute when veteran goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa entered the match as a substitute for Raúl Rangel. Deep into stoppage time, Álvaro Fidalgo added a third goal to complete a comfortable victory for the Mexican side.
The result confirmed Mexico as Group A winners after three matches, while the Czech Republic finished with one point and were eliminated from the tournament.
The World Cup group stage runs from June 11 to June 27. Each team plays three matches in a round-robin format. The top two teams from every group advance to the knockout stage, along with the eight best third-placed teams.
