There is welcome news for the lakhs of aspirants awaiting the SSC CGL 2026 recruitment. In response to candidate requests and technical issues, the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has extended the application deadline. While applications were originally due by June 22, 2026, candidates can now apply online until 11:00 PM on June 25, 2026. This recruitment drive aims to fill 12,256 posts across various central government ministries and departments. **Recruitment for 12,256 Posts**
A total of 12,256 vacancies across various central government ministries, departments, and offices will be filled through this recruitment drive. The posts include Assistant Section Officer, Assistant, CGST Inspector, Preventive Officer, Assistant Enforcement Officer, CBI Sub-Inspector, Narcotics Sub-Inspector, Upper Division Clerk (UDC), and Tax Assistant, among others.
**Qualification and Age Limit**
Graduation from a recognized university is mandatory for most posts. However, specific educational qualifications have been prescribed for the posts of Junior Statistical Officer (JSO) and Statistical Investigator Grade-II. Candidates must be between 18 and 32 years of age. Candidates belonging to reserved categories will be granted age relaxation as per the rules.
**Exam Pattern and Sectional Timing**
The CGL Tier-1 examination will be computer-based. It will consist of 25 questions each from Mathematics, English, Reasoning, and General Knowledge. Candidates will be allotted 15 minutes for each section, and the entire paper must be completed within 60 minutes. A negative marking of 0.50 marks will apply for incorrect answers. The Tier-1 exam is likely to be held in August-September, and the Tier-2 exam in December 2026.
