The National Testing Agency (NTA) has released the results for the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) UG 2026. Concurrently, universities—including Delhi University (DU)—have initiated their undergraduate admission processes. Amidst this, students who failed the CBSE Class 12 exams are increasingly anxious. While CBSE has released re-evaluation results for some students, others are still awaiting theirs. Furthermore, although CBSE has announced that the Class 12 compartment exams will be held on July 15, the application process for these exams has not yet begun, adding to the students' distress.

Let us examine the situation in detail and understand how the delay in starting the application process and completing the procedure on time could exacerbate the students' difficulties.

**1.6 Lakh Students Applied for Re-evaluation**
CBSE began the Class 12 re-evaluation process late, causing a delay in the entire procedure. Amidst a controversy regarding OMR sheets, CBSE had invited applications for Class 12 re-evaluation. A total of 1.6 lakh candidates applied; while results were released on June 21, they have so far been issued for only 87 percent of the applicants. Among these students, some saw an increase in their marks following re-evaluation, while others did not—leaving the latter with the compartment exam as their final hope for success.

**Admission Hinges on Compartment Results; Application Process Still Unknown**
CBSE has released the schedule for the Class 12 compartment exams but has not yet initiated the application process. This has heightened the anxiety of students who failed the initial exams. Many such students have secured good scores in CUET UG but have poor Class 12 results. Their marks did not increase even after re-evaluation; for such students, the compartment exam remains their last hope.

In fact, for undergraduate admissions, universities require students to upload their Class 12 marks alongside their CUET-UG scores. While universities are now preparing to commence the admission process following the declaration of CUET-UG results, there is no clarity yet on when the application process for the CBSE Class 12 compartment exam will begin. Students are concerned that if the CBSE fails to complete the compartment exam process on time, they risk losing a year.
