Versatile England forward Morgan Rogers has emerged as one of the most sought-after players of the summer transfer window, with Arsenal making him their leading target and preparing to test Aston Villa’s determination to keep hold of him.
According to Standard Sport, the Gunners have a serious interest in Rogers and are expected to approach Aston Villa in hopes of negotiating a deal. Arsenal view Rogers as an adaptable No.10 who can also operate effectively on the left flank.
The 23-year-old is open to a move to north London, and it is understood that personal terms would not pose any difficulty. Although Villa recognise his ambitions, they regard the England international as a key member of their squad and would prefer for him to play a major role in their upcoming UEFA Champions League campaign for the 2026–27 season.
Rogers was named the UEFA Europa League Player of the Tournament after Unai Emery’s side defeated Freiburg in the final in Istanbul, securing their return to the Champions League.
The forward, who has previously attracted interest from Chelsea, is currently representing England at the World Cup in the United States. He has featured as a substitute in both of England’s opening matches against Croatia and Ghana.
At the same time, Arsenal remain in discussions with Leicester City over a potential deal for 16-year-old winger Jeremy Monga. If the clubs cannot agree on a fee, the matter could go to a tribunal, but Arsenal are confident of finalising a transfer worth around £10 million.
While Rogers remains Arsenal’s top priority this summer, the club are also looking to strengthen in midfield, add depth at full-back, and possibly recruit another forward. The north London club are additionally expected to focus more on player sales from the first-team squad.
Negotiations have also taken place regarding a possible move for 18-year-old Moroccan midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi, who has caught attention with his performances at the World Cup. Arsenal, however, face strong competition from several European clubs, with Lille expected to demand at least £60 million for him.
Meanwhile, Arsenal continue to monitor developments surrounding Julian Alvarez. The 26-year-old publicly announced on Monday his intention to leave Atletico Madrid to, in his words, “fulfil his dream” of joining Barcelona.
Atletico, however, are reluctant to sell to their domestic rivals and have insisted that Barcelona would have to trigger Alvarez’s €500 million release clause. Both Mikel Arteta and Andrea Berta are known admirers of Alvarez and view him as a dream signing for the striker role. Arsenal had considered pursuing him last summer before switching their focus to Viktor Gyokeres.
The club hierarchy still believes Alvarez would be a perfect fit for the Premier League champions, and Berta has already made preliminary enquiries into his situation. Nevertheless, Arsenal are unlikely to make a formal approach while Alvarez remains intent on securing a move to Barcelona.
Atletico would prefer to sell Alvarez outside Spain, and if Barcelona withdraw from negotiations, Arsenal may choose to advance their interest. There has also been speculation that Gyokeres could be included in a potential deal, though no official discussions have occurred so far. Atletico were keen to sign Gyokeres last summer before losing out to Arsenal, and their interest in the forward remains strong.
