Manchester United have been handed encouraging news in their pursuit of Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott. The Red Devils are monitoring the English player as a potential alternative to Mateus Fernandes, who had earlier been identified as their top target to strengthen the midfield this summer.

The Premier League giants are seeking to replace Casemiro, who departed the club as a free agent. Although United are reportedly close to completing the signing of Atalanta’s Ederson, they continue to explore additional midfield options, with a preference for players already proven in the Premier League.

With Elliot Anderson expected to join Manchester City, INEOS intensified their efforts to sign West Ham United star Mateus Fernandes. Reports suggest that personal terms have been agreed with the player’s representatives; however, Tottenham Hotspur are also interested in the Portuguese midfielder and could attempt to hijack the deal.

Manchester United are unwilling to engage in a bidding war or meet West Ham’s £80 million valuation for Fernandes. Consequently, recent reports indicate that they have identified Scott as a reliable fallback option.

Scott fits United’s requirements well and appears to be a strong addition to Michael Carrick’s squad. The 22-year-old possesses considerable Premier League experience and aligns with INEOS’s recent strategy of targeting young and talented players.

Known for his composure under pressure, technical dribbling, and tactical intelligence, Scott also brings energy and diligence to the midfield. His aggressive pressing and creative playmaking make him an attractive choice to enhance United’s midfield options.

During the previous season, Scott contributed four goals and one assist in 39 matches across all competitions, starting in all but three of those appearances.

Bournemouth are well aware of the growing interest in Scott and are attempting to secure his long-term future at the Vitality Stadium. The Cherries reportedly wish to insert a £75 million release clause in a new contract offer, though the player has yet to sign the proposed deal.

An earlier report from The Peoples Person claimed Bournemouth were demanding £80 million for their prized asset. However, a new update has emerged that could significantly boost United’s transfer plans this summer.

According to The Daily Mail, both Manchester United and Arsenal are closely monitoring Alex Scott, with Bournemouth now setting a £60 million valuation. The report states, “Manchester United and Arsenal are tracking Bournemouth’s Alex Scott.”

“Daily Mail Sport understands any successful move would need to be around the £60m mark.”

The publication further notes that United’s midfield recruitment strategy could be influenced by the potential exit of Manuel Ugarte. Nevertheless, the report emphasises that the club remains committed to maintaining financial discipline and will not overpay for targets.

While Fernandes remains the preferred choice, given his reputation as one of the most promising young midfielders in European football, United may shift their attention to Scott if West Ham refuse to lower their asking price. With Bournemouth seemingly willing to negotiate, INEOS could explore this avenue as a viable alternative.
