New Delhi: India has reacted sharply to the war statement of Pakistan Defense Minister Khawaja Asif. The Foreign Ministry said that Pakistan is making such statements to divert attention from its failures and human rights violations. In a press briefing on Tuesday (23 June 2026), External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal made it clear that India completely rejects Pakistan’s fabricated claims.
Allegations of oppression and exploitation in PoK
Randhir Jaiswal said that the current situation in Pakistan occupied Kashmir is the result of decades old policies there. He alleged that Pakistan is suppressing the voice of the people through economic exploitation, denial of fundamental rights and administrative repression.
According to the spokesperson, the supply of essential goods and medicines has been stopped to stop anti-government protests in PoK. Internet services have been shut down and force is being used against unarmed civilians. Many people have also died in these incidents.
India appealed to the international community
The Foreign Ministry said that Pakistan is threatening war to hide its failures. India has demanded the international community to hold Pakistan accountable for its actions and human rights violations. Randhir Jaiswal said, "We hope that the world will question Pakistan’s wrong policies and oppressive attitude."
Khwaja Asif had threatened war
India’s reaction came three days after Khawaja Asif’s statement. While talking to a Pakistani news channel, he had said that if any action by India regarding the Indus Water Treaty affects Pakistan’s water security, then his country can take military action.
Khwaja Asif had said, "The moment we feel that our national security is in danger, we will start a war against India. Will definitely do." India termed this statement as irresponsible and said that Pakistan is raising external issues to hide its failures in PoK.
