
New Delhi, June 23. President Draupadi Murmu honored personalities from various fields with Padma Awards in the ‘Civil Investiture Ceremony-II’ at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Tuesday. During this, President Murmu honored former Chief Minister of Jharkhand Shibu Soren (posthumously) with Padma Bhushan. His wife Rupi Soren received the honour. At the same time, tennis legend Vijay Amritraj and renowned singer Alka Yagnik were honored with Padma Bhushan.
P. Narayanan and Justice KT Thomas honored with Padma Vibhushan
At the investiture ceremony, P. Narayanan and Justice (retd) KT Thomas were awarded Padma Vibhushan for literature, education and public work. Other Padma Bhushan recipients include SKM Mailanandan, Mammootty, Vellappally Natesan and Dattatreyudu Nori. The list of award recipients also includes two Americans, one Russian and one Georgian citizen.
President Murmu honored 65 people with Padma awards at the investiture ceremony. Vice President CP Radhakrishnan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah and many dignitaries were also present at the ceremony.
At the second civilian honors ceremony, 65 Padma awards were conferred, including two Padma Vibhushan, seven Padma Bhushan, and 56 Padma Shri. Earlier, President Murmu had presented 65 Padma awards in the first civilian honor ceremony held on May 25, which included two Padma Vibhushan, six Padma Bhushan and 57 Padma Shri.
Padma awards, one of the country’s highest civilian honours, are given in three categories: Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan. Padma awards are given in different fields like arts, social service, public work, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports and civil service. ‘Padma Vibhushan’ is awarded for exceptional and distinguished service, ‘Padma Bhushan’ for distinguished service of a high order and ‘Padma Shri’ for distinguished service in any field. These awards are announced every year on Republic Day.
