Bali slipped to third place amid ongoing challenges linked to mass tourism.
Over the past year, authorities on the Indonesian island have intensified efforts to tackle visa violations and inappropriate behavior by foreign visitors in a bid to preserve local culture and public order.
Vietnam’s largest island Phu Quoc finished second while the Philippines’ Palawan ranked fourth, followed by Malaysia’s Penang.
Other destinations rounding out the top 10 included Thailand’s Phuket and Koh Chang, Malaysia’s Langkawi, and the Philippines’ Boracay, alongside Indonesia’s Sumba.
Nominees were selected by Travel + Leisure’s editors and expert contributors across the Asia-Pacific region, while winners were determined through a public vote.
The latest ranking underscores the growing competition among Southeast Asia’s island destinations as travelers increasingly seek a combination of luxury experiences, authentic local culture and unspoiled natural landscapes.
