US Coast Guard Helicopter Crashes in Alaska: Search and Rescue Underway

A helicopter belonging to the United States Coast Guard has reportedly gone down in Alaska, triggering a search and rescue operation, according to officials. The US Coast Guard Arctic District confirmed that emergency personnel were responding to a "reported crash involving a Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter" in the vicinity of Sitka, located in southeastern Alaska. On Monday, the Coast Guard shared on social media that first responders and search teams were dispatched to the crash site.


The incident occurred near Sitka, a coastal city situated to the west of Juneau. As of now, authorities have not disclosed how many individuals were aboard the helicopter or the details leading up to the crash. Typically, an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter is operated by a crew of four.


The Coast Guard emphasized, "The safety and rescue of our crew members is our top priority at this moment." They also indicated that a thorough investigation will be initiated to ascertain the details surrounding the incident.
