Iran goalkeepers at FIFA World Cup 2026 Alireza Beiranvand It caught the world’s attention by performing brilliantly against a strong team like Belgium. He made seven excellent saves to give Iran a goalless draw and won the ‘Player of the Match’ award.
However, the real story of Beiranvand is not hidden on the field, but in the struggle to reach the field.
Made a name globally after coming out of poverty
Born in a very poor nomadic family in Loristan province of Iran, Alireza Beiranvand had a difficult childhood. His father was against playing football and the family’s financial condition was so weak that even buying goalkeeper gloves was a pipe dream.
To fulfill his dreams, he left home in his teens and reached Tehran with some money.
Slept on the streets, survived by doing odd jobs
After reaching Tehran he had no place to stay. For several months he spent nights on the street outside football clubs. To earn a living, he did many odd jobs like cleaning roads, washing tires in a car wash, working in a textile factory and kneading dough in a pizza shop.
Despite these difficult circumstances, he did not give up his dream of football.
Made two Guinness World Records
In his childhood, playing ‘Dalaparan’, a local game of throwing heavy stones to protect sheep in the hilly areas, gave extraordinary strength to his shoulders and hands.
On the basis of this strength, he made two Guinness World Records in football-
- Longest throw in football history – 61.002 meters (200.14 feet)
- Longest drop kick in football history – 78.014 meters (255.95 feet)
Even today both these records are registered in his name.
Showed amazing spirit against Belgium
In the group match of the World Cup 2026, Beiranvand made seven brilliant saves against Belgium, one of the top teams in the world, and gave Iran an important point.
His excellent goalkeeping proved that a player who emerged from the struggle can create history on any big stage.
Iranian team is playing in difficult conditions
Iran’s national team is facing many challenges in this World Cup not only on the field but also outside the field. Due to geopolitical tensions and visa issues, the team could not establish a permanent base camp in the US and had to make frequent trips to and from Mexico.
Despite the long journey, limited preparation and mental pressure before every match, Iranian players have performed brilliantly.
Knockout hopes remain intact
After scoring two points from two matches, Iran is still in the race to reach the knockout stage. Alireza Beiranvand’s struggle, confidence and world-class performance have become one of the most inspirational stories of this World Cup.
