Bhubaneswar: After a prolonged pause, the southwest monsoon advanced into more parts of Odisha on Monday. The northern limit of the rain-bearing system is currently passing through Bargarh and Sundaragada.
Under its influence, heavy rain along with thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind (40-50 kmph) may occur at one or two places in the districts of Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Baragada, Kandhamala, Rayagada and Koraput. Thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind (30-40 kmph) is also likely in Jajpur, Kataka, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha and Nayagada.
On June 23, heavy rain may continue in the district of Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri and Gajapati. Thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind (40-50 kmph) is also likely at one or two places in Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Kataka, Anugola, Dhenkanal, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Boudh, Kandhamala, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha and Nayagada. Similar weather condition with wind speed of 30-40 kmph may also prevail in Sundaragada, Jharsuguda, Baragada, Sambalpur, Debagada, Sonpur, Nuapada, Balangir and Kalahandi.
On June 24-25, Koraput and Malkangiri may continue to experience heavy rainfall. Thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind (30-40 kmph) is also likely at one or two places in the districts of Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Kataka, Sonpur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamala, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha and Nayagada on June 24-25-26.
Though there is no warning thereafter, light to moderate rain may continue in some parts of the state during the subsequent five days.
The MeT office further stated that the day temperature my fall by 2-3 degrees in 2 days. While there will be no large change during the next three, the mercury may rise again by 2-3 degrees across the state.
