Mid-day meal workers took to the streets in Himachal, school kitchens came to a standstill

Shimla. Today, on Monday, June 22, mid-day meal workers are on strike throughout Himachal Pradesh. Accusing the central and state governments of exploitation, the Mid-Day Meal Workers Union affiliated to CITU took out an protest rally from Talland to the Secretariat demanding salary hike, 12 months salary and gratuity-pension. Apart from this, workers did not cook lunch in schools on Monday. As far as possible, the teachers arranged food for the children from their level.

Do not get salary for three months

The union has alleged that the Central Government has not increased their salaries by even Re 1 for the last 17 years and the State Government is also indifferent in this matter. Apart from this, he says that he does not get even a single leave in a year, does not get salary for three months and the government does not even pay his full salary at once.

Not even getting the cost of medical checkup

Not only this, due to the condition of 25 children, if the number is less then they are also fired from the job. Apart from this, there is no gratuity-pension on retirement. Also, the cost of medical checkup has to be paid three times a year.

Get 12 months salary and holidays

The demand of the mid-day meal workers is that as per the decision of the Haryana High Court, they should be given a salary of Rs 7000 per month for 12 months, they should get holidays like Anganwadi, the condition of 25 children should be removed, gratuity-pension should be given, medical expenses should be borne by the department, a policy should be made to regularize the mid-day meal workers. Apart from this, the union has warned that if the demands are not met, the movement will be further intensified.
