After the death of technician Chandradhari Yadav due to electric shock on the sets of 'Love and War', FWICE has demanded to increase the compensation from Rs 40 lakh to Rs 50 lakh and implement strict safety rules.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali's most awaited film 'Love and War' is embroiled in controversy due to a tragic accident. In the early hours of June 17, 42-year-old technician Chandradhari Singh Yadav, who was working on the film sets at Royal Pump Studio in Film City, Mumbai, died due to electrocution. In the initial investigation, short circuit is being considered as the cause of the accident. After this incident, Bhansali Productions announced financial assistance of Rs 40 lakh to the family of the deceased, but now the film employees' organization FWICE has raised the demand to increase the compensation to Rs 50 lakh and implement safety reforms in the industry.
How did the tragic accident happen on the set of 'Love and War'?
According to reports, at around 3 am on June 17, Chandradhari Singh Yadav received a massive electric shock while working at Royal Pump Studio in Mumbai. It is being told that the shooting of the film was going on at that time and in the initial investigation, short circuit has been considered as the possible reason for the accident. The accident was so serious that the technician died on the spot. Chandradhari Singh Yadav leaves behind his wife and two young daughters.
Bhansali Productions gave compensation of Rs 40 lakh
After the accident, Sanjay Leela Bhansali's production company announced financial assistance of Rs 40 lakh to the family of the deceased. However, now the film industry's employee organization FWICE believes that this amount is not sufficient considering the future needs of the family. The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has demanded increase in compensation from production houses from Rs 40 lakh to Rs 50 lakh. FWICE Chairman BN Tiwari said,
First of all, we want the compensation to be Rs 50 lakh, because their children are very young and the family will need help for their education. Apart from this, we have also demanded implementation of more strict safety measures on the sets and fixing the working hours of the employees. He was a very talented technician and it is very sad that his life ended this way.
Along with this, FWICE has also demanded to provide employment to the wife of the deceased. The organization says that a permanent job can become a reliable source of income for the family in the long run and will provide financial security to the family.
Chandradhari Yadav was continuously working long shifts.
After this accident, serious questions have been raised regarding the working hours of employees in the film industry. According to FWICE General Secretary Ashok Dubey, Chandradhari Yadav was working in very long shifts for several consecutive days before the accident. According to reports, he used to start work at 7 am and remain on duty till 3 am the next day. This rigorous schedule lasted for three consecutive days.
Demand for changes in safety and shift rules
After the accident, FWICE has written a formal letter to the production houses demanding further strengthening of safety standards. The organization wants regular safety checks to be made mandatory and technicians not to be forced to work to the point of extreme exhaustion. FWICE says that scheduled shifts and better security arrangements can help prevent such accidents in future.
