A personal memory came up when Virat Kohli spoke about one of his favourite songs during a recent event.
The former India captain shared that Karan Aujla’s track Winning Speech held a special place in his life because parts of the song reminded him of his own journey.
Speaking at the One8 global premiere, Kohli said the song connected with him on a personal level and had been part of his routine before several matches.
Talking about the track, he said, “You write songs from the heart. The one I resonate with most is ‘Winning Speech’ because it probably captures the journey you’ve gone through.”
Kohli added, “I can see similarities with my own journey as well. I lost my dad when I was pretty young too, so that song is quite special for me. I’ve often listened to it before going out to play matches.”
During the event, Kohli also spoke about his approach to difficult situations on the cricket field. He said he never stopped believing in a positive result, even when the chances appeared very small.
Recalling India’s memorable match against Pakistan during the 2022 T20 World Cup in Melbourne, he explained how that mindset had helped him throughout his career.
“I’m made this way. I almost crave situations when people feel like it’s gone and then somehow you can manage to pull the game back,” Kohli said.
He further stated, “I’ve never stopped believing, right till the very end, that the game is lost or we can’t win.”
Speaking about the same match, Kohli added, “I was told later, chances of winning the game was like 3% or something. But I never thought like that. Even 1% is enough. If there is a chance, there is a chance.”
Kohli’s comments came shortly after Karan Aujla completed his concert tour with a show at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi. The God Damn singer performed several of his popular songs during the event, including Doubt Doubta, Boyfriend, For A Reason and Winning Speech.
