Liverpool have reportedly declined a €25 million offer from Inter Milan for midfielder Curtis Jones, informing the Serie A champions that the proposal falls well short of their valuation and that they do not wish to pursue further discussions.
Inter Milan had submitted a second bid to secure the services of the England international, but Liverpool rejected it once again, maintaining that Jones is valued at approximately £40 million, far above the £21 million figure offered by the Italian side.
Although Jones’s current contract is set to expire next summer—placing Liverpool at risk of losing him on a free transfer in twelve months—the club remains firm in seeking a higher transfer fee for their homegrown midfielder.
Liverpool, however, are still optimistic that Jones will remain at Anfield and continue to hope he will agree to a new long-term contract with the club.
Inter Milan, on their part, believe they have reached personal terms with Jones but are reluctant to meet Liverpool’s £40 million asking price. The Italian side are also monitoring alternative midfield options, including Roma’s Manu Kone.
Inter’s interest in Jones first surfaced towards the end of the January transfer window. Recently, Liverpool’s Italy international Federico Chiesa revealed that the 25-year-old midfielder had been enquiring about the Milan-based club.
However, Liverpool view Inter’s £21 million bid as significantly undervaluing the player, especially given the current transfer market trends—Manchester City are reportedly offering over £100 million for Elliot Anderson, while midfielders like Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes are expected to attract far higher fees.
The Merseyside club is also mindful that Tottenham Hotspur recently paid £52 million for Brighton defender Jan Paul van Hecke, who, similar to Jones, had just a year remaining on his contract.
Jones featured in 49 matches for Liverpool last season, though he started only 18 Premier League games. He ended the campaign under manager Arne Slot, playing in an unfamiliar right-back position.
