In a post on social media platform X on Saturday, CM Adhikari said that this historic decision taken by Kolkata Municipal Corporation on the occasion of West Bengal Day is just and timely. He said that for decades an important road in the city was named after a man who was accused of abusing power and instigating the massacre of innocent civilians for political gains.
The officer said that now by naming this road as Gopal Mukherjee Road, a courageous man who played a leading role in saving the lives of people in the time of crisis will be honored to protect thousands of innocent people. According to him, this decision is an important step towards restoration of historical justice.
He said that the time has come for West Bengal to remember its real heroes, correct the mistakes of history and honor the true saviors of the society.
According to an official note from the Kolkata Municipal Corporation, the corporation has decided that Suhrawardy Avenue located in the KMC area will now be renamed as “Gopal Mukherjee Road” and the road will be known by this name in future.
Let us tell you that after the formation of BJP government in West Bengal, CM Suvendu Adhikari has changed his identity at many places. Such things include the removal of the controversial statue designed by Mamata Banerjee outside the Salt Lake Stadium.
