The BBC has secured the UK broadcast rights for the Spain vs Saudi Arabia clash, assembling a distinguished panel of football experts and familiar faces to cover the action.
In the Salford studio, the dependable Kelly Cates takes charge as the main presenter, steering the discussion and analysis throughout the broadcast.
Joining her on the panel are three notable football figures: former England forward Wayne Rooney, ex-Spain defender Cesar Azpilicueta, and former Brentford and Tottenham Hotspur manager Thomas Frank.
Rooney, who remains Manchester United’s all-time leading goal scorer, previously held the same record for England before being surpassed by Harry Kane. His experience as a player and manager adds valuable insight to the BBC line-up.
Azpilicueta, a long-time Chelsea favourite, enjoyed an illustrious 11-year career at Stamford Bridge, where he captured every major club honour: two Premier League titles, a Champions League trophy, an FA Cup, a League Cup, two Europa Leagues, a UEFA Super Cup, and a FIFA Club World Cup.
Thomas Frank, who guided Brentford to Premier League promotion and cemented their top-flight status, also had a short spell with Tottenham Hotspur last season. His tactical knowledge and managerial experience will complement the studio discussion perfectly.
For the live match coverage, the broadcast moves to Atlanta, where Ian Dennis will provide the main commentary. Supporting him in the commentary box is former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson, who earned 41 international caps and started every match for England during their 2006 World Cup campaign.
Both Spain and Saudi Arabia come into this fixture after drawing their opening matches. Spain, the reigning European champions, were surprisingly held by tournament newcomers Cape Verde, one of the biggest upsets of the competition so far. Saudi Arabia, on the other hand, took the lead against Uruguay before eventually settling for a 1-1 draw.
With all teams level in the group standings, this encounter promises to be a decisive one as both sides aim to claim their first win of the tournament.
