Home remedies for cleaning sink
Kitchen sink often gets clogged, which is a common problem in every household. This is the space that is most used throughout the day for washing utensils, cleaning vegetables and other tasks. When oil, spices, tea leaves and other food particles from utensils enter the pipe, the sink gradually gets clogged. As a result, water stops flowing and the sink begins to fill with water.
If cleaning is not done on time, foul smell starts spreading in the kitchen, causing trouble to the family members. In such a situation, work stops and tension increases at home, but there is no need to worry.
A clogged sink can be cleared quickly with some simple and effective home remedies. By adopting these measures, you can keep your kitchen clean and fragrant without calling an expensive plumber or using chemicals. Using these methods from time to time also reduces the problem of sink jamming.
1. Use hot water
If the jam is not severe, slowly pour hot water into the pipe first. Warm water helps soften grease and grime. This is especially effective for kitchen sinks.
2. Mixture of baking soda and vinegar
Pour half a cup of baking soda into the sink drain and pour one cup of white vinegar over it. Allow to foam for a few minutes and then flush the pipes with hot water. This can loosen the dirt accumulated in the pipe.
3. Use a plunger
If water is not draining at all, use a plunger. By applying pressure for a few minutes, the dirt stuck in the pipe can come out and the flow of water can become normal.
4. Cleaning the Drain Strainer
Many times the cause of jam is not the pipe but hair and garbage stuck in the drain cover or strainer. Take it out and clean it thoroughly.
5. Cleaning pipe trap
Dirt often accumulates in the U-shaped pipe (P-Trap) located under the sink. Open this part by placing a bucket and remove the accumulated waste and fit it again.
6. Use of wire or hook
Trapped hair, plastic or other debris can be pulled out by inserting a thin wire or hook into the drain. This method is more useful in bathroom sinks.
When should you call a plumber?
If even after home remedies, water is not draining from the sink, there is bad smell or the sink is getting clogged repeatedly, then the problem has become serious. In such a situation, it would be best to take the help of a plumber.
