Yamaha R7 Electric— The movement regarding electric two-wheeler has intensified in the automobile market. Japanese automobile manufacturer Yamaha is now working on a high-performance electric sports bike for the global and Indian markets. New leaked patent documents have confirmed that the company is now preparing to take its track-only ‘Proto BEV’ concept, presented at last year’s Tokyo Mobility Show, on the real road. The structure and shape of this bike matches closely with the company’s popular middleweight petrol bike YZF-R7.

Type-2 charging and larger battery pack

Technical analysis of the patent design shows that Yamaha is going to provide Type-2 AC fast charging port in this bike. This technology is usually seen in larger cars or heavy electric vehicles, but recently Honda also included it in its ‘WN7’ concept model. Having a Type-2 connector simply means that this sports bike will get support for single-phase 7.4 kW and three-phase fast charging up to 22 kW, due to which even heavy battery packs can be charged in a few minutes. Thanks to the large battery, this bike will be able to cover long distances on a single charge.

Rear brake and advanced ABS technology on handle

Unlike traditional motorcycles, many major changes have been made in this electric sports bike. Yamaha has removed the traditional clutch lever from it. Instead of the clutch, the rear brake lever has been provided on the left hand handle itself, which means now the hassle of pressing the brake with the feet will be eliminated.

Additionally, to improve the bike’s balance and braking response, Yamaha has moved the ABS hydraulic unit from under the seat and fitted it directly behind the steering head. According to the company’s engineers, this change will shorten the length of the brake lines, due to which the ABS will work quickly and accurately even at high speed. The bike uses a quiet and low-maintenance belt-drive system for power transfer.

Auto market and its impact on customers

Premium bike dealers and auto experts in Delhi-NCR believe that if this model reaches the production stage, it will pose a tough challenge to premium electric bike manufacturers like Ultraviolette. There has been a lot of discussion since morning regarding this patent leak between the premium riding clubs of Karol Bagh and Dhaula Kuan. However, Yamaha has not yet revealed the official name, power output (horsepower), battery capacity or launch date of this bike.
